This movie is just plain fun… Although it better reflects an episode of Mazinger Z, Devilman pretty much steals the show. He bleeds purple, yells his own name before attacking and his alter ego, Akira Fudo, has a mid-air motorcycle duel with Kouji Kabuto, the pilot of Mazinger Z. Unfortunately, I was unable to watch with subtitles, but the plot wasn’t too hard to grasp. Siren makes an unexpected appearance to team with Dr. Hell (I guess, this takes place before D-Man kills her) and everything you’d want from a giant robot/demon crossover happens in full, just with little to no gore (Though, “The Demon Bird” is impaled at the end). If you’re a fan of early anime, don’t miss this, but if you’re looking for bombast like the Devilman trilogy, you’ll have to look elsewhere for such extremes.
